What would Jack say if he knew that his dear Surprise would be in a pirate movie?

Admittedly, the credits say she's Continental Sloop Providence based on the East Coast in Rhode Island’s …Bay. This 110 foot sloop is a recreation of a very historic Revolutionary War naval vessel. Originally known as the Katy and launched in the 1760’s, she sailed the Eastern seaboard and the Carribbean as an armed merchant ship. It is believed that she may even have had experience as a whaler and pe… Can't read more

Do look at picture 8! That figure head! If that isn't dear, dear Surprise!
19th-Aug-2010 05:05 pm (UTC)
At least she will be on camera once again, even if we have to peer around Keira Knightley to see her (cinematographers do not know real beauty when they see it, tsk)
19th-Aug-2010 05:33 pm (UTC)
And she will be in 3D, but do I want to see PotC4 (when I balked at the previous 3?)And will the audience of that pirate movie not remember her as the sloop (!) from PotC? The poor dear!
19th-Aug-2010 07:12 pm (UTC)
Never mind what the pirate fans think (and what are they thinking, for all love?!), we will know who she is. Anyway, the best way to watch such films is on fast-forward, pausing for the ships.
19th-Aug-2010 07:23 pm (UTC)
Only too true, still in the theatre you cannot fast forward. Being the dear lady, she would look splendid in 3D! *sighs*
19th-Aug-2010 08:52 pm (UTC)
Is it not about time we re-watched her in 2D? :-)
20th-Aug-2010 04:20 am (UTC)
It would be nice, it's been ages. *sighs* At least I saw exerpts only last week (see one of my recent lj posts ;D)
20th-Aug-2010 05:22 pm (UTC)
A whole 3 months! It had been about 6 before that :)
20th-Aug-2010 05:56 pm (UTC)
It seems much longer! And I need cheering up... Anyone for an impromptu watch this weekend??
20th-Aug-2010 08:37 pm (UTC)
You will organize it? Sunday might be nice. The three of us?
20th-Aug-2010 09:11 pm (UTC)
Sunday evening would work for me. What does it need - a post here, and a post on perfect_duet to advertise it to anyone else who might want to join?
20th-Aug-2010 09:15 pm (UTC)
...and the time when it will start. :D If nothing else, the two of us will watch it together while also commenting on chapter 8 of LoM. :D
20th-Aug-2010 09:18 pm (UTC)
Oh god, multitasking might be asking too much on a Sunday evening *g*

What time would suit?
20th-Aug-2010 09:23 pm (UTC)
For me, somewhen between my 8 and 9pm (your 7-8 pm), but before it had been set sometime around 4pm. Why not make a post at p_d and here and ask around. Give the time that would suit you.
20th-Aug-2010 09:27 pm (UTC)
7 or 8 would be good for me (I couldn't manage earlier than 6-ish) - I'll make posts.
20th-Aug-2010 09:28 pm (UTC)
20th-Aug-2010 09:12 pm (UTC)
Not sure if I can - although admittedly one of the main objections is that it would make people think I was crazy, which is hardly news.
Not sure it would cheer me up - although I hope it does you, if you need it.
20th-Aug-2010 09:14 pm (UTC)
You certainly sound stressed, dear. Is time running away with you? Why would the movie not cheer you up.

21st-Aug-2010 12:05 pm (UTC)
I would have thought more the opposite (although my shoulders don't agree) - I had too much to do until the trip, and now I don't, and I don't like that either :)

Maybe it would cheer me up too much, and then I would feel dull afterwards? Or maybe the idea just felt like one more thing to do - like thinking about all the chapters I haven't commented on, and all the fic I haven't written, and the Collingwood post - this is supposed to be fun! ;)

And on that note, I really need to do the mandc_read posts...
21st-Aug-2010 04:22 pm (UTC)
Since you don't have anything to do (you came down from a height?), you might as well watch the movie with us. Jack and Stephen will cheer you on. ;D
21st-Aug-2010 07:20 pm (UTC)
A height?
I have studying to do, and things to book for the next adventure - I'm just feeling a bit uninspired.
And work all week has been that horrible state where I do bits of things, and nothing ever seems to get nearer being finished - preparing for the new year to start. There's no satisfaction in it! :)
21st-Aug-2010 07:26 pm (UTC)
*snugs you and sends tea and sympathy*
21st-Aug-2010 07:02 pm (UTC)
Aww, you shouldn't feel obliged to do anything you don't feel like, whether it's commenting or writing or slumping in front of a familiar movie. Tho' the latter does sound like a fairly easy option ;-)
21st-Aug-2010 07:22 pm (UTC)
I know, I think I just feel bad for not feeling like it ;)

And watching the film doesn't help cause anything useful to be done... :)
21st-Aug-2010 08:39 pm (UTC)
Well no, it's the careful avoidance of doing anything with any use whatsoever. Which you may well not find as soothing as I do *g*
21st-Aug-2010 09:21 pm (UTC)
My conscience was brought up presbyterian :)
22nd-Aug-2010 07:43 am (UTC)
Mine lapsed.
22nd-Aug-2010 11:27 am (UTC)
And mine should be having a day of rest :)

I think sometimes that it would be nice to keep Sunday like that - not grimly religious, but quiet for resting and growing. But then interesting things always happen!
22nd-Aug-2010 01:50 pm (UTC)
That is what Sunday was there for. :D

I like those interesting things too.
20th-Aug-2010 09:20 pm (UTC)
Is keeping up a facade of sanity really worth the effort? ;-)
20th-Aug-2010 09:32 pm (UTC)
Well... there's also the possibility of disrupting dinner (although if we're starting 7ish that shouldn't matter), or of disrupting things other people want to watch :)
20th-Aug-2010 09:39 pm (UTC)
Dinner-and-a-movie is an established custom in many places *nods* and there is really nothing much on telly that night :-)
20th-Aug-2010 09:45 pm (UTC)
And I should be watching a DVD about fossils (and Cuvier!), that I was supposed to watch a month ago...

Is it exam time again? Presumably not, or you'd be hiding away - I just know it was the end of the summer.
20th-Aug-2010 09:49 pm (UTC)
Aren't phasmids fossils too? There is one in the Naval Romance. :D
20th-Aug-2010 09:50 pm (UTC)
It is, in a fortnight. Hence the slightly desperate Work Avoidance Behaviour *g*
20th-Aug-2010 09:54 pm (UTC)
You're doing well.
*applauds you*

In a fortnight we will have finished one book and have a two week's break before we start on the next book.

I have a few ideas on what to do in that interim. *g*
20th-Aug-2010 09:59 pm (UTC)
Last minute swotting-up on Latin names for me. Now where can I purchase a memory like Stephen's?
20th-Aug-2010 10:05 pm (UTC)
Don't ask me. My memory is shoddy, to put it mildly.

Will you also post at perfect_duet?
*looks forward to the watch and chapter 8*
20th-Aug-2010 10:08 pm (UTC)
Have just done so :-)
20th-Aug-2010 10:13 pm (UTC)
Thank you. You're a gem!

I'm looking forward to Sunday evening. :d
21st-Aug-2010 10:10 am (UTC)
I wished twice this summer that I know more Latin names - in the Natural History museums in Belgrade and Gothenburg :)

Still, I found Pernis apivorus and Upupa epops, and that was exciting :)

(I also hunted all round the Gothenburg museum for brachiopods, but couldn't find any. I want to see one!)
21st-Aug-2010 07:00 pm (UTC)
Still, I found Pernis apivorus and Upupa epops, and that was exciting :)

But did they taste good? *g*
21st-Aug-2010 07:06 pm (UTC)
They were presumably filled with sawdust or similar, so probably not!
21st-Aug-2010 07:09 pm (UTC)
That means the upupa epops did not hop around either? :(
20th-Aug-2010 08:35 pm (UTC)
It'll be nice to see it again. :D
